Stomach Cancer
Stomach cancers (Gastric Adenocarcinomas) are often associated with Helicobacter pylori infection (70-90%). In an extensive review of gastric cancer and Helicobacter pylori , it was determined that presence of Helicobacter pylori confers an approximately six-fold risk of gastric cancer, accounting for about half of all gastric cancers. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has classified Helicobacter pylori as a Class I Carcinogen (i.e. in the same category as cigarette smoking is fir lung & respiratory cancers) and recommends treatment for all patients who present with dyspepsia and are positive for Helicobacter pylori .
